It was noticed yesterday morning (Sunday 30 June) that there are about 8 blue rubbish bags next to the palisade bordering the Centurion Academy in Bank Avenue's parking. Another bag's content was distributed about 5 metres from there, to Bazaruto’s side; making it at least 9 bags.
At nearer investigation it became apparent that the content of all these bags were probably originating from the nearby McDonalds on the corner of Hendrik Verwoerd and Heuwel Avenue. I went into McDonalds to check – exactly the same blue bags are used inside the shop as were found dumped in the corridor. The content is also a dead give-away as it is the same cups and other marked items used by McDonald’s take-away customers.
We reported it to the JOC on Sunday afternoon. I made a few calls in the meantime: McDonalds make use of Waste Tech – a contract liaised by Head Office to remove their rubbish. On enquiry, McDonalds Head Office promised to look into the matter. I indicated that we would not be satisfied till it is removed. If something will happen, is another question.
This is in Zwartkops X7 … visible from South Street; and situated between Bazaruto centre and the closed CA parking area.
Apart from being ugly and giving our area a bad name, it will soon become a health risk – and should be nipped in the bud.
To John Vorster side of the parking area we still have our regular illegal nightly sleeper – we again took away his "bed" (old boxes flattened); making it just a little less nice and cosy; with all’s assistance the message might get through eventually.
UPDATE: This story was carried by LookLocal Pta Centurion (Rekord) on 6 July 2013. I initialy reported it per radio to the JOC Sunday 30 June. Andre de Villiers posed for a picture for Rekord with the rubbish bags and shared his thoughts Friday 5 July; which was published on the LookLocal Rekord online version on 6 July 2013 and carried in the printed version of Rekord on 12 July 2013. – Annette
We all know that illegal dumping is a huge problem in our area!
As a community we need to work together to name and shame these people and make them load their rubbish and get out of our area!
Exactly that happened on Saturday 22 June 2013 when a community member spotted some people dumping rubbish behind Plantland.
SAPS were quick to respond and forced them to load their rubbish, clean up the area and get out of our area!
Well done! Working together will make a difference!
Here are some photos for all to see!
Following is a security alert from ADT followed by more general notes on criminals possibly posing as innocent service providers and tips.
SECURITY ALERT FROM ADT
“Recent incidents have prompted us to reiterate the warning about criminals posing as service providers. A warning has been placed on Facebook about two men in the Chantelle, Akasia and Orchards areas who ring the buzzer and tell the domestic worker they were sent by the owner to read the electricity. When let in these criminals will overpower the domestic worker and ransack the property.
This is not an isolated incident and has been reported throughout Pretoria. We are urging all our clients to inform their domestic workers and children on what to look out for.
Let's continue to work together to keep your suburbs safe.”
The above was received from ADT. If something suspicious is noticed (LS1), report it to the JOC at 0861 571 911. Or – get direct; get a radio: It can save precious time in a crisis situation.
MORE CRIMINAL POSINGS AS INNOCENT
I heard last week a horror story of someone in a Hyundai that was kidnapped in the Kempton Park area by corrupted police/people convincingly posing as police officers. The guy, who was saved only by his car’s security system not allowing criminal-intended resale of the vehicle, was sent home in his underwear (even his denim and tekkies were stolen!) He was lying for hours with his face to the ground. When he afterwards tried to report the matter at the police he was not believed …. This phenomenon was recently carried on Carte Blanche.
Unfortunately this happens in any sector; the police or security companies are unfortunately not above that. Recently there was a story of one of the security companies’ staff in Sandton posing to check on the safety of a member. The member opened the door, only to discover it was a hoax and was held up by armed robbers.
I had a scary experience recently when a potential buyer came to look at my house, which is for sale: They came in (he had the looks of a drug lord) and took pictures all over the place. This stresses that one really cannot trust anyone … especially in our homes.
IN ADDITION TO ADT’S TIPS ABOVE
A good statement I recently came upon was that a community who is not willing to take responsibility for their own security is a doomed community. Money cannot buy everything.
